Students admitted to the PhD program will be expected to have completed a Master's degree in a related field including but not exclusively urban planning, architecture, historic preservation or landscape architecture. Students are expected to enter the PhD program with two semesters of graduate level quantitative research methods. These courses can be taken after entrance to the program and prior to their advanced methods course.

If your scores do not meet the minimum requirements (click HERE for PDF) you will be required to take a placement test through the Maryland English Institute (MEI). Based on this placement examination, it may be determined that: - The student has satisfactory English language proficiency. - The student needs more English language training, requiring successful completion of the semi-intensive English Language course at MEI. - The student needs to complete a full-time intensive English language program before being admitted to the academic program. - Students who need further English must enroll in the required course during their first semester of study at the University.
