All accepted PhD students will be offered a teaching assistantship for five years of study (a sixth year is possible, based on need and academic accomplishment, but is not guaranteed). The teaching assistantship requires teaching and tutoring responsibilities. In the first year the stipend will be $23,795. This stipend includes summer teaching which is guaranteed following the first year only. In subsequent years summer teaching is usually available but not guaranteed. The summer stipend is approximately $6,000. Students may opt to not teach in the summer, if they wish, with the corresponding reduction in stipend.
